  1. Thanks! I’m having a great summer so far!
Camp was amazing. Probably the best week of my life! (so far. I’m only 13! Ok almost 13…)
I cant wait until next year. I defiantly plan to go back! It was great getting to spend a whole week with horses!

  2. Hi Emma,
Thanks for your note! I’m so glad you enjoyed Chancey. How cool that you’re going to riding camp this summer, too. I’ve written a couple of posts about preparing for camp. If you search “Vershire” in the search box, you should find those posts. The best advice I can give is to prepare a list of questions for the camp to help you decide which one is right for you. Every camp is different, so if you know what you want out of the experience it will be easier for you to decide. Best of luck! Have fun!

  3. This afternoon my sister handed me Chances of the Maury River. I’ve read it 4 times before but I’m goog to read it again 🙂 I love your writing and I’m really exited to hear that your writing Dante’s story!
I have one question: I am going to horse camp this summer, do you have any tips?
    Thanks!

  4. Ernie! I bet he was a sweetheart. You may already know this, but the best advice I have to offer for anyone writing children’s books is to join the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. (http://www.scbwi.org) For a few reasons: 1. SCBWI offers really great workshops and opportunities to improve in craft 2. well-respected editors and agents often attend regional and national SCBWI conferences as faculty. 3. I’ve found that becoming part of a community of people writing and illustrating for children just makes me a better writer and it’s fun. 🙂 Good luck with your manuscript!!

  5. Gigi, Thanks for finding my blog so that I could find yours and for the sweet comment. I read all the horse books available in the 50’s and 60’s growing up in Georgia. Finally, owned a Tennessee Walker who was retired from his previous jobs. Ernie, what a sweetheart! What excites me now in your About is that you got a middle grades book published!! I am finishing one and have almost decided to do self-publishing instead of taking on the publishers. Any hints for a fellow writer?

  6. Wow, thank you so much! It’s already July but I’m still not over my birthday greeting! I had fun with the basketball theme of my blog too! Yeah, I heard Eric was picked by the Wizards at the NBA 2013 draft. 🙂

  11. I am so impressed with you and you writing …….I caught whiffs and wuffles from your writing. Pond water and tadpoles, but I had no idea of the extent of your involvement with horses and your associations. I am in awe of the Equine part and cannot get past that part yet.

I am truly humbled by your energy, your dedication and enthusiasm with regard to everything you do.

I can’t help myself, I must name drop, just one… you may not be familiar with Robert Varva’s Work; his book, “Horses I have Known”. I trained with and did breeding and foaling for the Cover Horse of that book: El Cordabez, A deep red bay Andalusian Stallion. A farm high on a mountain top in the Smokies in TN. Green, all the green I could ever want : )

I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday

Truly, I am charmed and delighted to have met you.

(I just set up my blog this evening)
